Stratum's design inspiration stems from the natural world. The designers used earth colors as the fundamental tone, creating spatial changes through the combination of stone and wood grain. This approach gives the clinic a friendly and aesthetically pleasing design. The use of natural elements is a deliberate departure from the cold, clinical impression most medical facilities tend to give.
What sets Stratum apart from other clinic designs is the innovative use of a wavy grille made of aluminum to decorate the original outer wall. This design feature changes the stiff atmosphere often associated with traditional clinics. The wavy fold lines continue into the interior, from the back wall of the waiting area to the stone pattern wall of the medical area. Stacked cut stone patterns present a chic texture, while mirror ceiling lines extend the space. The designers used gray stone paired with warm wood veneers as a uniform tone, creating a warm and relaxing vibe.
The realization of Stratum's design involved the use of stone tiles, veneer, metal, mirror, and metal grille. The project, which was completed in 2018 in Taiwan's Taoyuan city, measures 6.5m in width, 230m in depth, and 300m in height. The design was a result of extensive research, with the designers visiting many clinics and drawing inspiration from foreign hotels to create a comfortable and stylish space.
Despite the challenges encountered, particularly with the mirror material and the special shape of the ceiling, the designers were able to adapt and make corrections on the spot to achieve the intended design. The result is a clinic space that uses an open design to give patients a comfortable feeling. The exterior wall features a metal grille to present a stereoscopic effect, while the interior is inspired by the stacking of stones in nature, combining irregular lines, stone textures, and marbles to create a sharp but calm atmosphere.
Stratum's unique design has not gone unnoticed. In 2019, it was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, a prestigious accolade that recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs. The award is a testament to Stratum's outstanding expertise and innovation, its strong technical characteristics, and splendid artistic skill. It is a design that introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder, truly redefining the concept of clinic spaces.
